FET-China Mobile Partnership Disapproved by Taiwan's Regulators
May 08, 2009
In the wake of the announcement made by China Mobile that it plans to acquire a 12% stake in Taiwanese telecom operator FET (Far EasTone Telecommunications), Taiwan's government announced on May 6 that it will not review the China Mobile's deal as Taiwan's existing laws still prohibit Chinese investment in Taiwan's telecommunications segment, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported on May 6. Even though Taiwan's government plans to lift the ban of Chinese investment in several segments in Taiwan, beginning from May 2009, it remains to be seen whether or not Taiwan's regulators will give the go-ahead to the deal in the long term.
